This project successfully strikes a careful balance of renovation, restoration and preservation of an historic San Francisco residence, resulting in large open spaces which accommodate a young family’s contemporary needs, while preserving the original architectural grammar. The larger moves involved connecting interior spaces by removing significant bearing walls and relocating a central stair to improve flow and access. New and restored finishes and period details are highlighted throughout.
